History: Babe Ruth's only year in the minors was 1914. He started the season in Baltimore, but the Boston Red Sox acquired his services for what was then the princely sum of $20,000, and soon sent him to their Providence affiliate. George Herman Ruth (still seen as a pitcher) was brought up to the Red Sox in September, and the rest, as they say, is history. Short-visor cap typical of the era.
